4th May 2009
Today we read through 4 scripts that we will be shooting next week. After that we went to the classroom for tutoring. We did multiplication basic facts, I did some maths where I would try to find the missing number in an addition by adding a “tidy” and then counting back e.g. 35 + What = 92, so I would go 35 + 60 = 95 go back three – so 35 + 57 = 95. Later I did some work on this blog site and then I showed the others a good game to learn the times tables with.

Today was our first day of actual shooting. We started filming the episode “Emu Pox.” We arrived at Avalon studios and got into our costumes, then we went to make up. The make up people gave us “chicken pox” which was red ink spots all over our faces and hands, Julia even had them on her ears. We went to the green room (our relaxing room off set) and then went onto the set for the day. There was an endless cycle of the same scene over and over again, while we blocked the scene (look in our dictionary to see what that means!), and got different shots. Then it was on to the next scene, and doing it over and over again. I liked the end of the episode whent he rocket took off and smoke went everywhere – there was so much.
6th May 2009
Today started just like every other day: Make up, wardrobe etc… Today we shot “Non Imaginary Friend”. We were delayed due to a kitten that kept misbehaving, and when we had to work with it, we saw just how hard it is to use animals on set. We shot some scenes and then had lunch, and after lunch I did some maths with Rob while Julia was filming. After a little while it was my turn to be on set and then, when the episode was complete, I went home.
7th May 2009
Today, Rob picked me up at 7:35. We came to Avalon and I went to wardrobe. Today I had to dress up as a Pirate. I went to make up where I saw someone I knew. His name was Jack, he was an extra for the episode. The make up people gave me an earring, a hat, and an eyepatch. Then we went on set to shoot some scenes, and when we weren’t filming, I did some maths work with Rob, and updated this site when a had a few minutes to spare.
15th May 2009
As you can see, it has been over a week since I last had any time to keep this diary. That doesn’t mean we weren’t here, just that we have been really busy, but anyway here we go.
Today was awesome! As usual, we got dressed and ready, but that part was the only boring bit of the day. In the morning we had a pillow fight on the set, and Julia and I got to pat a guinea pig. In the afternoon we shoot some more scenes, and I got to act weird in some of them, which was fun. I am really enjoying not having to go to school, it’s really annoying having to wear uniforms everyday. In a week or so we have to go back while the crew are shooting outside shots that Julia and I aren’t in. I wonder if my friends will start bombarding me with questions. Today was fun, I love being an actor…
18th May 2009
Today hasn’t been the best, and by that I mean it’s not that fun because we only did read throughs and stuff, which we do every Monday (check out our dictionary for terms you don’t understand). After that we did some blocking on tomorrow. I can’t wait! Wanna know why? Well, tomorrow, we’re filming the very first episode “Apricot Antics.”
19th May 2009
Today we filmed “Apricot Antics,” the first episode. It was lots of fun for all of us except for “Leo” who spent the whole day getting covered in sticky food, like honey and apricots. To top it all off, he then got covered in flour which went everywhere. He looked like a ghost at the end. This is one episode I am looking forward to seeing, it looks really, really funny.
20th April
Today was Julia’s birthday, which was kinda cool. She was given a big chocolate birthday cake at lunchtime, it was yummy! We shot “Waiter, There’s An Emu In My Soup” today. It was pretty good and we got to slurp our soup on camera, which was great fun since we were allowed to be messy, noisy eaters. You know those things our parents don’t let us be in real life.
21st April
“Leo” coped it again today. First he was sprayed in the face with tomato sauce (some even got into his eyes) and then he fell face first into some pavlova. It was really fun to be part off, but the best part of the day came right at the end when Julia and I got to stuff our faces with another pavlova.
1st June
We have been away for a week. Everyone else was shootng on locations, while Julia and I went back to school.
today was just like every other monday: readthrough’s in the morning. but this afternoon we had some photo’s taken of us for publicity stuff. i think they were called publicity shots. after that i had a hot chocolate and went into robs car. typical monday at avalon
2nd june
This morning, on the way to work, one of my neighbours cars broke down so we had to give them a jump start. Today we shot the episode “To Catch An Emu.” We came in and got dressed and ready, then went on to set and filmed the first scene. I got to meet the lady that plays Mrs Browne, Sam’s gran. Then we did a couple more scenes and had lunch. After a few more scenes I went home with Rob.
3rd June
Today I got picked up by Rob again. Then we came to work and got dressed and ready. I got to use an air cannon in a few scenes which was extremeley fun. now thats what I call “shooting an episode”. At lunch Rob and I practised our super basketball moves and I got a large bag of free bananas. I’m not so sure what I’m going to do with them. Maybe I could sell them….after lunch, some more scenes and then we were outta there!
8th june
Today was the first monday that we didn’t have to do read through’s. Instead we shot the episode: EMU On The Loose. Today Julia and I got our first taste of green screen action. Since computers and T.V.s can’t be seen on camera, we had to put a green sheet over the computer screen. After another hard day of work, we went home.
da nex day: (9 may)
today we shot the episode: EMU’S can fly. we had to drink a “mango smoothie” made out of orange juice and banana milk. pleurgh.halfway through a shoot, bryonywhacked her nose on toby’s elbow. plus, she already had a sore spot on her nose, so you can imagine how much it hurt. I mean, you know what it’s like when you hit your nose really hard. she cried, but can you blame her? Ouch! well, we got there in the end. after finishing the scenes we went home and I made some wooden toys.
And da day after dat (10 may)
Today we shot full moon blues. We got to wear pajamas and dressing gowns and slippers with tanks on them. We also got to squirt Toby Leach with water guns and I wrapped my dressing gown belt around my head like Rambo. Then I workeded in the tutoring room for 2 1/2 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but I got home in the end.
